Today we went on a lovely stroll through Coombe Woods. We explored all the different paths and enjoyed the wildlife and views.
As part of our topic ‘Flotsam’, we have been looking at the ocean. We studied some famous paintings based around the ocean. We chose the painting’ The Great Wave off Kanagawa’ by Hokusai and used this as our inspiration for our own ocean watercolour.
We have been busy creating our wild things using clay. We have used different techniques and tools to help. Next step is to paint them!
Today we learnt about the artist, Andrew Goldsworthy. He uses the surrounding environment to create sculptures, pictures and patterns. We tried to use his ideas in creating our own works of art.
Our theme is ‘Where the Wild Things are’. We have enjoyed reading the story and creating our own Wild Wood. How many Wild Things can you spot?
Today we had fun playing Kwik Cricket. We demonstrated some accurate throwing skills when fielding and we were all able to make some runs.
Yesterday we went into the woods to make dens for our wild things. We thought about what sort of home our wild things would like to live in. Some of our dens even had a swing!
This week we have been learning about first aid. We learnt CPR and we practiced the abdominal thrust. We learnt some simple bandaging techniques.
Today we practiced different sewing stitches. We had a try a the blanket stitch, cross stitch and the overcast stitch. It was quite tricky threading the needle but we had a great time learning to sew.
Today we have been learning about Native American Indians and we looked at a variety of totem poles and discussed their significance with the American Indian culture.
